DRBL limitations
DRBL is a useful impact estimate, not causal roster value, complete off-ball measurement, classic WAR, or a proven best-in-public metric across eras.
Why it matters
- Stating limits up front earns more trust than burying caveats.
- The diagnostics, especially DRBL-LN and DRBL-B, are easy to over-read.
How to interpret it
- Not a causal “replace this player and the team’s wins change by X.”
- Standard play-by-play misses some spatial / off-ball behavior.
- Lineup context (DRBL-LN) is association with teammates, not proven off-ball value.
- Player pages do not currently show individual uncertainty bands.
- R1 is not classic replacement; WAR1 is not traditional WAR.
- Cross-era comparisons and “beats DARKO” claims are not product claims.
How DRBL uses it
- Primary surfaces stay on DRBL/100 and WAR1.
- DRBL-P, DRBL-LN, and DRBL-B appear only as diagnostics in season compare.
