Trade Exception (TPE)

A Trade Exception is a CBA mechanism that may allow a team to acquire qualifying salary without sending equal salary back, subject to league rules and only when structured TPE data exists.

Why it matters

  • Fans often confuse “fits the dollar amount” with “this trade is legal.”
  • Teams use TPEs as flexible acquisition tools after outgoing trades.

How to interpret it

  • Amount and expiration come only from a verified structured source.
  • Remaining value is never calculated from assumptions.
  • Salary fit lists (when available) are not tradability lists.

How DRBL uses it

  • Team Cap & assets shows TPE rows only when a structured ledger is ingested.
  • MetricHelp / Learn explain the concept; transaction free text never invents a TPE.
